Makes ME smile!
THE DARK KNIGHT WAS an awesomeness lollipop that I suckled on for 2 hours and 40 minutes like a baby who just woke up after an all-night sleep.
Maybe it's 'cause I haven't been getting my fix of "crazies and weirdness" lately, but this movie really made an impact on me. No other Batman movie has had such a strong message before. And finally I feel that the characters of Batman and notably the villains are getting the development they deserve.
Ever since reading "The Dark Knight Returns" and "Arkham Asylum: a Serious House on Serious Earth", the movies have been subsequently further watered down for me. I never fully appreciated Batman until reading the comics, so boy did it surprise me when The Dark Knight was relatively loyal to the comic book characters, and not just a summer blockbuster money maker.
Granted, the character of Harvey Dent/Two-Face was extremely set-up from the outset. But the Joker + Batman symbiosis really carried the movie, despite all the corniness that Two-Face brought, lol. Heath Ledger genuinely surprised me, because the first place I saw him was in "10 Things I Hate About You", and always as the burly, surly, blonde hero dude. I didn't know he had "psycho" in him. And now that he's dead, his acting career won't be type-casted as a psycho. :D (yes, always looking on the bright side, lol)
It's been a trend for movies to end off in a bittersweet way, and I greatly appreciate the fact that they didn't do it as emo as it could've been. (It reminds me of the director's cut ending to Blade Runner.) I also know that if I nitpicked a little deeper, The Dark Knight has all been done before, and people will complain that the gore was only for the shock factor, etc etc. But I'll still watch it again, in theatres. :D (which is a great compliment, coming from me, lol)
I also loved Batman's more realistic fighting style this time. You get the real "thud" of packing meat into facial cavities. lol

Random note: Fruit-flavoured vodkas are diarrhea in a bottle. No, I haven't taken to drowning my sorrows. xD Friend's going through a break up, so we go out for dinner to Milestone's + Moxie's. She orders a peach Bellini, so I get curious and order a Blue Zen the first time, then a Green Apple Martini the 2nd time. I find I don't particularly enjoy alcohol's effects. It doesn't help me relax at all, it just makes my attention span shorten to that of a goldfish's, and makes me sleepy. However, I do enjoy the sensation of sipping a drink, and the short buzz prior to sleepiness, lol. I still don't get how people can have drunk sex, lol
