Hmmm, an interesting statement: Why not? : P

The novel was actually pretty optimistic: guaranteed honesty meant a bunch of suicides, a lot of divorce, but eventually it meant that you could finally trust when someone is making a business deal with you, and with everything in the open, you could make great progress in diplomacy between countries.

Actually, the book concentrated mainly on crime. The author thought a LOT of money was being wasted on the prison system and ineffective court procedures. So with a truth machine, all the billions that go toward keeping prisoners could go to scientific development instead. After installing capital punishement, all crimes committed after the Truth Machine was put into use had to be premeditated... so no excuse. o.o

Whoops I should clarify; certain group of “friends”. Gahh I have to stop hanging around: self centered, selfish, neurotic, paranoid, egotistic individuals.

Eeesh, premeditated acts of crimes! I can see how the novel can lead up to 1984 where there is no privacy left for the populace.

What type of capital punishment was devised after the invention of the truth machine?

How was the ending society like with mass technological advancement?

I wonder how difficult our lives would be like if the truth machine was invented….let say for the first three weeks **there are some questions I would not like to confront. There are some people I know will probably conclude in a mental break down.

Ooh you mean me? :D lol The people I've met through you don't seem that way..

Mmm but the Truth Machine meant that surveillance was unnecessary. : ) People, realizing they had to live upright lives, controlled themselves. Best kind of mass control there is.

Oh no, I meant that they just killed everyone who committed crimes after the truth machines were put into use. Nothing bad, still just lethal injection. What makes the book also interesting is that the protagonist, who invented the truth machine, committed a crime...

Pretty awesome. :D They had cryonics, slowed down aging, solved the problem of food shortage. I mean, even the author called it a "speculative novel".

lol If you've lived your life well, I don't imagine it would be that terrible. What I want to know is how the truth machine works with emotion-related questions. There is no "truth" when it comes to that stuff. But it'd be pretty crappy to have if your parents start interrogating you, lol

Oooh who'd have a mental breakdown? :D

Pouya and kami are probably one of the most subtle and self controlled people i've ever met.

To be honest and truthful, i probably won't introduce you to my emotionally eccentric friends. If you were a: self centered, selfish, neurotic, paranoid, egotistic individual i've not noticed it yet.....so how is ada egotistic?

So it becomes a panoptic self discipline system?

Ahhh....back to capital punishment.....so what's your opinion on death penalties?

Sounds a tad like Star trek. Invention of the replicator system quenches human materialistic hunger. What is the average lifespan on a human within the novel? 120 years?

hehe actors would beat the emotional test pretty easily. If your mom had the chance, what would her first question be utilizing this truth machine? :P

Sounds like the situation with the Voigt Kamff test...i can't remember where i read it, but individuals suffering from Schizophrena would not be able to pass the VG test.

Those names shall remain nameless.

Whoooa, so under that easy smile is the heart of a fox? lol

Oh I'm sure I'm all those things, if you get me on a bad day, or if we're trapped in a burning building, or if we're playing Soul Calibur, and I accidentally stand in front of your face during those crucial seconds... lol kidding xD

? No need for a panopticon, ppl watch themselves and each other. I'd say it's more akin to some... religious sect thing. lol

Hm, I'm all for due process and rehab. The main problem with capital punishment is that sometimes they get it wrong, and I don't feel it's anyone's right to condemn someone to death. Somehow it's easier for me to support euthanasia and abortion than capital punishment...
What about your opinion?

Something like that, and everyone's like 6'something, lol

Probably "What are your marks in school" lol. Your parents? : P

I thought it was sociopaths, who can't empathize?

LOL...that for sure not xD Hehehe both of them fail at the game of seduction. **Secret here...gahh can't believe i'm gossiping on LJ. But Pouya used to have the biggest crush on Kami **still does and it took Kamie about….4 years to sort of notice it : (

Trapped in a burning building...lol shoves calvin over fire so Ada can walk over it without getting burned. Gnaws on butt in this case!!!

Sounds like Japanese people in this case?

KILL'EM ALL! I meant...yah rehab and jailing is probably the better way to go since we might be executing the wrong person, and we have tons of flaws in our court syste,...too bad we can't put people on ice yet. I'm with you on abortion and euthanasia too.

Lol why taller? Better living increases your growth rate?

I can never see you getting a C on your report card. "Who was that you just brought home?"

Err....was it sociopaths? Can't remember..... I wonder how it's like to be a sociopath...not empathizing with other people?
