Learning how to read.

The comic book format is quite revolutionary, for someone used to plain text on a page.

To create atmosphere, one draws a large picture in the background (e.g. gladiator death match), peppered with speech bubbles with various comments ("Kill him!").

On top of that, carve out strips wherein your main characters engage in dialogue, and voila, you have two scenarios happening at the same time: a screaming crowd in the background, while still being able to concentrate on the main conversation.

Text placement is very important as well. Reading "left to right" is defied when "top" and "bottom" are introduced. No arrows exist to direct your reading; I suppose it is the skill of the artist and the writer that leads you naturally from one speech bubble to the next (especially when things go diagonal... gah!).

Then again, some comic book writers/artists seem to love pushing the boundary more than others. With each new writer/artist, there is a new interpretation within series such as "John Constantine: Hellblazer". And then you get the surreal "Arkham Asylum", or the simple (and somehow very depressing) biographical "American comics" (or Chris Ware just picked the depressing ones? lol).

P.S. John Constantine, the Laughing Magician, is BLOND. And a Brit. :O

--------------

New computer! New Computer! :D
*spends long, intimate sessions, probing into new computer's secret places... gutting it and filling it with my programs, like a good slave*
Sounds dirty, lol

Back alleys.

My go-to sites so far (as in, I have made keyword shortcuts for them in Firefox):

For TV: http://www.casttv.com/
For TV downloads: http://couchpotatoes.forumotion.net/login.forum?connexion (People upload lots of TV shows, but you must register)
For music: http://thebigrockshow.blogspot.com/
http://www.phazemp3.com/
http://www.mp3raid.com/
For movies: http://www.watch-movies-links.net/

Um, hope I don't get arrested for this. lol I'm also sure there are more + better sites, if so, let me know. :D

Today's Shame: "Discovered" Alexisonfire finally. And onerepublic (the rest of the album lol).
Actually, who cares. I'm fully aware there is a lot of good music out there that I have not listened to. And sometimes I get caught up on a few artists/bands at a time (Fair To Midland/Pussycat Dolls... I wonder if there's a mashup for that!). As long as I get to them, it's all good.

** Bruno's crotch-to-face acrobatics and air-humping on Conan's desk. ** LOL
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x9ow0y_bruno-conan-obrien-interview_webcam

Make Fireworks!

1. The Fuse
Punch a hole near the bottom of an empty 10.5oz can (the Campbell's soup variety is perfect) and insert a 6-inch fuse from the hobby shop.

2. The Explosives
Sprinkle in 1tsp of black or smokeless powder (available at Wal-Mart). Then cover it w/ a disc-shaped piece of tissue paper.

3. The Fuel
Fill the rest of the can w/ Cremora, the highly flammable powdered non-dairy creamer. Make sure it's well sifted and not clumpy.

4. The Show
At dusk, gather some friends, light the fuse, and run back at least 25 feet. Your creation will explode in a 4- to 6-foot ball of flames!

Courtesy of WiReD's How To Wiki section

*Edit: Ok, I don't think they sell Cremora in Canada. ;_; Dreams of pyrotechnics, destroyed!

Labelling people.

Today's Triumph: Newwwwwwwwwww computer on its way~~!
The Dell 545: 8 gigs RAM, 1 terabyte (that's right, one terabyte) HD, ATI Radeon 4350 (512MB), Quad-core Q8200 processor (2.33GHz, 4MB cache).

400$ shaved off the original price, @ 999$ special deal. I'm mostly excited about the processing PWR and the graphics card. Is this the downfall of Ada, as she finds shinier MMOs to latch onto now that her computer can handle it? Dun dun dunnn...

Today's Curiosities:
1) Harmonized Sales Tax (HST): aka. GST (I don't understand how this works, they're still charging us 6%)
2) Environmental Disposal Tax: Certain electronic equipment will be taxed starting April 1, 2009. Just to piss us off.
3) LCBO on strike: Local LCBOs mobbed by frantic crowds.

Today's Larf: So far, I have categorized Bad Customers as such:
a) Acid Rain Stormclouds: Alarmingly rude, impatient, difficult to console.
These people fester all day in their bad mood, raining their acid on any hapless victims who are forced to deal with them. Their bad mood usually starts from one small slight, and from there it builds into a massive stormcloud. Often, stormclouds build between mothers and daughters, wives and husbands, elderly people on their own, or cocky people. Sometimes, one can be responsible for starting a stormcloud, when the customer is led to feel swindled, or contain excess amounts of self-worth.

b) Thieves: Arrogant, demanding, shameless.
These people often have insider-knowledge of the workings of retail stores, and live by the mantra "the customer is always right". They are not afraid to push the boundaries, take advantage, and demand extra customer service. If there are free items, they will ask for 4. They will find the smallest defect, on the cheapest item, and throw a fit when they don't get a discount. There is speculation as to how their habitats look: mountains of bags and boxes of tiny samples. It is not known how these people "can live with themselves", though one common characteristic among them is "not knowing how they appear to others".

c) Dictators: Impatient, insecure, yet superior.
These people don't think you are qualified to do your job. On the same note, they would be happy to direct you. Always one step ahead, they constantly ask for receipts, for packing, for sensor tag removal. Scientists believe they are an evolved form of the "Acid Rain Stormcloud", having found a proactive reaction mechanism (though they can still easily revert to stormcloud status if provoked). The best course of action with Dictators is to simply go along with their demands, and if possible, assuage their insecurity with a little effort on your own part. In this way, trust can be built, and this beast will be tamed.

Today's "Sweet" Moment: One of the managers found a little Minnie Mouse keychain thing, and gave it to me, saying it reminded her of me. Aww~

Today's "Good Thing": Dinner was delicious: pumpkin soup, eggplant stir-fried with pork bits, brocolli with shredded meat and mushroom soup sauce, Nordica cottage cheese w/ strawberry bottom, brown rice and good ol' water. :)

Whizz bang!

Woooooow!! X-Men Ultimate #2 : Return to Weapon X starts off with a Bang! Namely my favourite mutant: Nightcrawler! :D

Nightcrawler has escaped the Weapon X complex! Red alarms blaring, attack dogs snarling and straining at the leash as soldiers rev their snowmobiles through the snow, silhouettes of Nightcrawler flitting and vanishing in volcanic eruptions past a nighttime snowy landscape!

FWOOSH! Nightcrawler teleports, wrapped around the back of a masked Weapon X soldier, yanking him off his snowmobile, grabbing his gun and letting loose a barrage of bullets, taking down 2 more!

Dr. Cornelius, intense and hunched over the screens at the control centre, glasses mirroring the visual's mad chase of 30 snowmobiles tearing after Nightcrawler as his snowmobile plunges towards the edge of a cliff. Dr. Cornelius urging them to shoot to wound, he's invested too much time in the "little German boy who still wet his bunk a few months ago".

FWOOOSH!! Snowmobile, Nightcrawler and all plunge straight off the edge of the cliff, a mini nuclear explosion of amber smoke in midair!

Only Dr. Cornelius and one soldier knows that Nightcrawler isn't dead; another eruption of amber smoke and Colonel Wraith is there, Nightcrawler locked in the sight of his tranq gun as he hangs out the side of a chopper, strapped in by a harness. Dr. Cornelius urges again to take Nightcrawler alive; Colonel Wraith replies with an insult as PZZT! Nightcrawler's body wrenches backwards, a small explosion at his neck, and his snowmobile streaks off from under his airborne body.

Nightcrawler lies on the snow, glowing golden eyes wide and staring up at the star-speckled sky, his body reflected in Colonel Wraith's red goggles as he disembarks, walks over casually to let lose some cocky insults; Nightcrawler is the first mutant since Wolverine to make it this far. A commercial airliner flies overhead. Wraith sneers, mocks, 'cause he know Nightcrawler is too weak to teleport up there; he kicks Nightcrawler in the head. Two soldiers drag Nightcrawler by the feet back to the chopper, as Wraith instructs them to burn the soles of his feet; then, when he can't feel pain anymore, to torture the girl in the next cell who sings to him. Wraith breaks out a cigar: "It's time to send a message to anyone else with an escape plan hidden up their butt. Some of these animals are starting to forget who they belong to." End with a close up of the S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem on his upper arm.

---------
But since I've read #3 already, I know Nightcrawler isn't going to hang around. :(

Today's the only day off I get this week.

Today's Lesson: Learning how to make payments on OSAP. O.O *sweats bullets* lol

Online banking sure made it easy; the nice lady on the pre-consolidated phoneline just deactivated the original bank account, and now I manually transfer dough to NSLC. I'm sure it's going to be another mini-hassle when I apply for OSAP again, but that won't be till later. Right now, my biggest problem appears to be operating our deceptively simple fax machine...

Edit: Turns out I was dialing the wrong number the whole time. XD Durrr... Must've pissed off the people on the other end. (Like the time another store kept using our phone # as the fax #, and every single time we picked up the phone, all we could hear was the "doo doo dee doo BZZZZZZZZZZZZ BZZZZZZZZ BZZZZZZZZ").

Today's "Sweet!" Moment: North York Central stocked up on X-Men Ultimate #2~ And I was right there to grab it off the shelf~ Mmmm unsoiled goodness~

(They probably ordered it after seeing my abuse on the hold system, hehehe. Hopefully they do the same for John Constantine: Hellblazer, they're just missing "The Fear Machine"!)

Today's Shame: Chickened out on piercing my ears.
I was deciding on whether to put it high in the cartilage, or kinda midway. So I thought I'd do a little research, but Googling up pictures worked against me. :(

The Query So Far
Order ~130$ Element/Enjoi/Black Label skateboard?
-OR-
Support a friend and buy a 75$ custom-designed skateboard?

Note that I am a beginner, so perhaps I don't want to start out with something uberexpensive.
Also note that perhaps I will regret cheaping out and have to buy a better board in the future anyway. Also, I'm not a huge fan of skulls.

On a related note:
Go complete, or self-assemble?

As usual, life comes filtered through MMO-tinged glasses (new generation's PTSD?). lol Experience has taught me that, when stepping into a new game for the first time, research into strategy and tried-and-tested builds is essential to getting a jumpstart on your character. However, it's not till you're on your 2nd character that you feel a real sense of accomplishment. While the first character is loved because of sentiment, your 2nd character is much more satisfying because it packs more punch. Not only does it inherit your 1st character's hand-me-downs, but also all the tricks and tips you've gained from bumbling around with the first. The result is a sleek, streamlined, and powerful machine that often outperforms the first.

In light of this, I am inclined to start with a complete, then when I've gotten the hang of it, to go with self-assemble.

Another resurgence of a desire to have a sibling. Quell it, quell it!!
--------

Two nights ago, I dreamt that I was in gloomy nighttime London. The cobblestoned streets and brick houses were slick with moisture, glistening in the light of the electric lamps. This London was by all means exactly what you would expect, give or take depending how many BBC shows you've watched.

But of course, this is an Ada dream. lol

Nighttime, empty streets, not a creature stirring, not even a zombie. The quiet was unreal, made worse by the fact that I was being hunted. Myself as a child with a team of children, all ragtag and assorted, skulking down streets, skittering from shadow to shadow.

Because, you see, there is a London that you see, and another London that you don't. (Yes, I can hear Neil Gaiman's lawyers suing me right now.. lol)

--------
(Ach, too p00ped to write more... Just back from swimsuit shopping, went to 5 different stores... so.. tired... *triumphantly clutches a black and hot pink swimsuit...collapses and dies*)

And then I have to find out Douglas Snow's closed till June 22nd. -___-)*

TYR has neat names for their suits: Nero, Marinus, Poseidon, Neptune... and Thor (??).
Up was delightful :D Not Pixar's grand Capstone of Victory, but still visually lovely and dotted w/ little islands of laughter. Certainly brought a smile to my face. : ) Favourite part had to be when Carl threw everything out of the house... it reminded me of more underground animations for some reason, seeing those 2 chairs. 2nd favourite part was Kevin mimicking Carl LOL

I also like how they increase the ridiculousness so that a home-made gondola (ah Mythbusters would've loved to try this) doesn't seem nearly as infathomable as say, dogs operating bi-planes.

Is it just me, or are they toning down the "heart-tug" factor in Pixar movies?

Really liked the short "Partly Cloudy" too! 'Cause I mean, baby sharks and porcupines gotta come from somewhere... lol

The most interesting thing tonight: In the 'Sherlock Holmes' trailer, there is a scene of a man leaping/falling out of a window of a multi-story yellow building into a river. I have seen that exact same location, in my dreams. Except of course, it was me, and the window, and the water. O_O

'Terminator: Salvation' : Future looks sad for sentient bots. : ( Lotta hot actors. Only "human" aspect was Blair + Marcus, and Kyle imitating Marcus. Nice action sequences. I was actually looking forward to how they were going to deal with the "robot that believes it's a human being" thing... and then nothing much happened with that, lol. Apparently every command centre looks like the Apple Store in the future. Scary! o.O

Woops! lol

Aaaaaaaah... So, the finale to Ugly Betty was very entertaining (as always). For some reason I felt even more emotionally-connected to the characters than I usually do... got me thinking about "first love". And the horrible, horrible trauma some people go through b/c of it. :D

This is me. :D

Star Trek Gooshiness!

Star Trekkk!! Nitpicking mode was off, hence I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. xD

I enjoyed this Star Trek movie precisely because of:
- Nostalgia
- Bangin' CGI
- How shiny everything is! (*koff* Apple store)
- Compelling accompanying score
- Quick pacing
- Bad@ss drill (freakin' molten lava jet!)
- The ending, which was classic Star Trek, lol
- Ok ok, Zachary Quinto is attractive. : P

Unfortunately, while pleasant and captivating, these toppings cannot hold up a movie all on their own. Upon further review, the movie is an entertaining riot of plot holes and contrivances.

1. Anyone else slightly uneasy with Kirk's childhood extreme adrenaline-seeking behaviour, wanton destructiveness and impulsiveness, and obsession with pollution-spewing relics of a capitalist past? Oh, and the cure: Place him in a position of authority?! Pike sure is a gambling man.

2. IOWA??

3. That mining ship was packing some serious heat. Enough to destroy 2 separate groups of ships. Why not a remnant group of Warbirds, bent on revenge? And does the operator of a mining ship really need a sceptre? lol And why does a ship have tiny little bridges that people can fall off of??

4. Parachuting from space... there are so many things wrong with that idea, lol

5. Ok, you can't just go around spawning blackholes everywhere. "A black hole is a region of space in which the gravitational field is so powerful that nothing, including light, can escape its pull." Delta Vega should've been sucked in, considering you could see the whole damn blackhole-age from the surface. O_O It's like popping a blackhole where our Moon is, you'd get more than rising tides, I promise you!

6. "Here's the Enterprise, the best ship evar. Let's put some fresh cadets into it, only one senior officer, and see what happens!"

7. Scotty was a bit of an afterthought. Ehh we'll just promote him to chief engineer, since we incinerated the last one, and we only pack one good officer for every 20 useless ones whose job designation is "jumping away from a spray of sparks in the engine room". lol

8. Everyone's good-looking. TOO good-looking. =___=

lol

I would've liked to see more of their training in Starfleet. For all the explaining about their origins, there wasn't much character development...

Oh who cares, it was Fun and Exciting! At last, a Star Trek movie that caters to my impressionable, excitement-loving side!

--------------------------------

The Onion: Trekkers Bash New Star Trek Film as 'Fun, Watchable'
3 extra hours, loll

RIP Chief Engineer Olson:

Kumbayaaaa. Ommm. Fo'shizzle, mah dizzle! lol

Right now I'm reading this book called: "Empty Cities of the Full Moon", by Howard Hendrix.

Empty cities... already a fascinating concept in itself. :D

The "full moon" part ties into it when science and spirituality merge. The story is split between the time before and after an apocalypse caused by an artificially-engineered prion (basically a warped up protein) that infects and eventually spreads a pandemic that is deeply rooted in the shamanistic ritual of drumming and dancing. The infected ones that don't die eventually evolve into part-human, part-animal hybrids, or better known as were-folk.

The last few uninfected (aka Tru/Oldfolk) are secluded on an island, have discovered the secret to immortality, and the leader, Cameron Spires, has been experimenting with this shape-shifting disease to create a third were-type: MerFolk, aka mermaids.

What makes it even more interesting is that the book is first split between 2 alternate universes: one where a car crash is avoided, and another one where it kills 4 people.

What makes it even MORE interesting is when one of the offsprings of the universe where the car crash is avoided, ends up in the universe where his parents are dead.

So: shamanism, shape-shifting, universe-hopping, science. Freakin' cool, huh? :D

Firstly, the idea of manufacturing mythology is just amazing. I mean, not only the f**k around w/ the human genome, but to become God-like and make creatures straight out of the Odyssey... it's like "I defecate on the line between fantasy and reality. Let there be minotaur!" haha

Secondly, this connexion between science and basically the occult... there are some quotations in the book that go something like:
" I see numerology and mysticism, pushed to enough decimal places, become mathematics and physics -- and physics and mathematics, pushed enough decimal places further, become mysticism and numerology again. "

It strikes me, because of my ready rejection of the occult, but my ready acceptance of "science". It's easy for me to reject ghosts and chi, because I can blame it on light refraction or the placebo effect. Yet when astronomers tell me of dark matter and quarks, it's just so easy to accept it, even when it requires just as much faith and doesn't come with objective proof either.

I mean, who's to say that a shaman's drums really don't have neurophysiological effects on the dancer's brain? Many times I have "used" music like a drug, felt its intoxicating effect elevate me to levels of trippiness and calm. Being Christian, I've also been to concerts where there is sheer emotional power in mass singing and celebration, which I doubt is very far from doing the same around a fire in a pagan ritual.

And yet the resistance to the occult still exists. I guess it's for the good, because if God exists, then surely Satan does as well.

-----------
Orite: the book's not very good in itself, it's rather slow... but the concepts are fascinating. ^^

I was so bored I baked a PIE yesterday! :D I need to figure out how they make the crust taste good... mine tastes bland. : ( Filling is delicious though.

And it's back to work tomorrow, my cheeks are still a wee swollen, but at this point I want to go to work. How sad, I couldn't find something to occupy my time. lol

Ada's id comes out to play?

Had this superhot dream about Wentworth Miller (aka. Michael Scofield from "Prison Break"). Ok, it wasn't that hot (considering I'm not going to lock and bury this entry in Private Memories), but like all my dreams, it was pretty realistic. ; )

Ahem, lol. I dreamt that we were married (wow) and lying on our stomachs on a bed together (woooooow) in our bedroom. The hardwood floor was a very warm, rich colour, like amber; the walls were a soft cream, it was night outside the window, and the soft bed was covered in a dark navy blue comforter, the light fluffy kind that also keeps you very warm. Then there was PG-rated shoulder contact (wooooooooooooooooow) and he was so muscular and MEATY-feeling (I guess a better word would be "solid"), and it felt even better because of the finely-knit cashmere that encased his solid and very humanly-warm armness~~~~~~~~~

He kinda looked like this:

I'll never know if any more stuff would've happened, because we heard a desperate knocking on the door that stopped as abruptly as it started. I exchanged glances w/ Wentworth (he basically looked as serious as he does on "Prison Break", lol). We opened the door to a hallway that ended in darkness, and in the square of light cast on the floor from our lit room, his "brother" Lincoln (aka Dominic Purcell) was lying dead on the floor, all scratched and bitten up.

Then the zombies started coming. I'm not kidding, lol. Wentworth went to check his bro's corpse when they started shambling out, looking much like the zombies in many first-person shooters (as in "WHY DON'T THEY DIE WHEN I SHOOT THEM AAAAAAAARGH").

Wentworth started beating them down, but there were too many! He shouted to me to get back, get back, and we ran back to the bedroom and slammed the door.

I don't know how we got out of the house, but we found ourselves outdoors. Desperately looking for a car in the nearby mall's parking lot; well-aware of the unnatural quiet. In the underground parking lot, we found a 2-door sports car whose windshield was soooo wide it was almost half the car's front hood. It was pimped out in Chinese gangster style: jade trinkets dangling from the rearview mirror, as well as those little paper constructs you get at temples, a Japanese air freshener in clear blue jel, and those neon-coloured LED rods that are supposed to make you feel like you're in "The Fast and the Furious" (until you step out of the car and they realize you're just some nerdy guy, hahaha). The black leather bucket seats felt really good though. We got in, and Wentworth pressed the accelerator to the floor as we sped out and up through the parking lot underground... and that's really the last thing I remember, just that giant windshield and lights flashing by.

It was a really vivid dream, that I woke up from feeling both girlishly elated and freaked out ('cause the zombies ruined everything). I just hope Wentworth Miller doesn't mind, should he ever come across this entry, lol

Pichurros!

Wisdom teeth, out! :D

Dear Lord, that relaxing stuff they pump into your arm is magnificent! It felt like a full-body massage of the soothingest variety, then a warm bath, then being wrapped in the fluffiest bathrobe and laid into a cozy soft bed~ Throughout the procedure I caught snatches of the orthodontist's conversation with his assistants... they were talking about Abercrombie and Fitch, and LuluLemon o_O But I was soooo out of it, I had barely a concern even when they started to drill into the bottom teeth. : ) If I'm going to be euthanized, surely I will request this stuff! :D

Getting home wasn't so bad, it was mostly dizziness (prolly from the anaesthetics). The post-op instructions were a little confusing though... they want you to not rinse your mouth till 6 hours after, but you can eat 2 hours later? Fear of bleeding overrode hunger... so I just changed the gauze every 45 mins for 6 hours and slept on and off. Little bit of pain when removing gauze, but otherwise entirely bearable! :D Looks like I'll have to find another use for my Tylenol-2 ; ) The swelling makes me look like a greedy squirrel though, haha

Eating is just a matter of choking down your food like a baby penguin, and trying not to suck in your cheeks because that causes this uncomfortable sensation that your sutures are coming loose. O_O I ate quite a lot yesterday... 1 bowl of pumpkin mush (actually soup), 1 bowl of congee w/ meat bits (mmm choke'em all down), and ice cream! lol Which made me think that if I visit someone in the hospital, the thing I'm going to bring them is ice cream. No matter how sick you feel, or how painful it is, ice cream will make it all better, lol

Sleeping is not an issue either, the swelling's just shy of the side of the head you can comfortably rest on. And I dunno whether it's the meds or the abundant sleep, but I feel great this morning! :D Luckily for me, I'm also taking Celebrex, for that sporadic inflammation in my right knee. I think it's keeping the swelling down in my face as well... isn't the timing amazing? :D

My TEEF! The bottom 2 were shattered beyond salvage.
Another one of my TEEF! Just like in my dreams~

You can see the "invisible" thread there. Check out my lovely potential cavities, lol
This be the other side, which is a lot less swollen.
The full view of the back, doesn't make a blowjob look too sexy now, does it? (Stupid jokes... sadly not delirious enough to blame them on the drugs, lol)
And another picture, just to show how lighting can make things look scarier o_O

Another thing I realized is how amazing our university Health & Dental programs are! I mean, for about 115$/year, I get 700$ back for this wisdom teeth removal, and countless prescriptions that adds up to 200-300$ (to clear up my acne and regulate my menstruation, whoa too much info, hahaha)! Plus visits to physical rehab, yearly eye exam, yearly dental cleaning are "free"! Really get a lot of bang for your buck :o

----------------------------------
Look what I found in my mussels o.o

After a few minutes of exploring all the menu options (inevitably setting the date/time wrong), all excitement was choked off when I found out you had to pay for Street Fighter. -_- It's a real let-down after being able to paw at the iPhone, from the ugly icons, to the stagnant keyboard technology. Then again, I suspect most cellphones feel shamed beside the iPhone. xD Supremacyyyyyyyyyyy, haha

-------
How to eat 3 servings of vegetables, one serving of meat and carbs in one go:

a) Layer: washed leafy veggies, leftover rice, leftover meat into one pot. Add a bit of water. Turn to medium-low heat. Go do something else for 10 - 15 minutes. Come back, and enjoy!

Freakin' efficiency and nutrition, lol

For raw meat, just throw the seasoned meat into the pot on medium-low heat for a few minutes before adding the veggies and rice.

If I'm going to read something, I'll do it for myself."? :/

And for some reason my avatar keeps turning into "SF: My fandom fancies the classics" O.o

In these days of the abuse of the hyphen, I still find that some words actually require hyphens in order to make sense and not make me feel like an illiterate dumb@ss:

a) Infrared
You have no idea how long I spent pronouncing it in my mind as "infrared". I never made the connection to the aural pronunciation until the day I watched some Discovery Channel and realized you pronounced it "infra-red". Given the amount of sci-fi I read, this is a pissing shame.

b) Deice
I had to re-read the news bulletin 3 times over to finally realize this was not some fruity relative of the word "dice". Freakin' de-ice the plane, not slice it up for potato salad.

Fine, I only have two for now. But let me warn you: you may spray around hyphens like it's no one's business, but there's only one person who'll look like an idiot when it's not a big-ass car they're driving, but a big ass-car.

Chris Faulkner has just landed the job of his life. But Shorn Associates are market leaders in Conflict Investment. They expect results, they expect the best. Chris has one very high-profile kill to his credit already, but he will have to drive hard and go for kill after kill after kill if he's to keep his bosses happy. All he has to do in the meantime is keep his marriage alive. And himself...

Thirty years from now the big movers in global capitalism have moved on from commodities. The big money is in Conflict Investment. And that's where Shorn Associates comes in. They keep a careful watch on the wars of liberation and revolution that burn constantly around the world. They gauge who the winners will be and sell them arms, intelligence and power. In return for a slice of the action when the war is won. The reward for the investors? A stake in the new nation.

Market Forces by Richard K. Morgan

Sounds good, doesn't it? :D Very eager to dig into it (after I saw his latest @ Indigo, squidged between Rushdie and Palahniuk).

---------
Watchmen!!! Desperately trying not to read the comic... But again and again I find myself at Indigo, nicking a copy and sneaking into some corner to read it. (Yeaaa I know everyone's disapproving, bad Ada is ruining the comic's virginity for the REAL customers, etc) But it's been a while since I've been so captivated. :( I feel like a pedophile who's just spotted a little girl in an autumn playground~ *shamed* hahaha

Man, Chapter Five, they really amp it up with the parallel universe/picture w/in a picture "Tales of the Black Freighter" comic (bloated human stomachs as raft floatation O_O)! Then I kept going; who could resist Rorshach's chapter?

My favourite part so far is when the Comedian and Nite Owl were dealing w/ the rioters, and someone threw that can at the Comedian's head (I snickered out loud when I saw that! xD). It reminded me of the Dark Knight.

Something just struck me... Watchmen doesn't have the "biff! bam!" onomatopoeia (almost had it on the first try) of other comic books! No sound effects whatsoever. I never realized it, until just now. What significance could that have, omgggg?????? :O (Don't look at me, I'm being lazy. :D)

---------
On another note, I can't get enough of slurrily-enunciated Mandarin R&B and rap!
Who else but Jay Chou?
He really is talented, if he wrote all those songs. o.O!
