| I don't have a bizarre life, do I? |
[09 Jul 2009|02:58pm] |
Last night, my apartment building lost power. Not the entire building, not all one floor or one row of apartments, but random apartments. Half of the building was fine, and the other half... was the half I live in. ( There's... nothing to do when you don't have internet. Nothing! )
This morning I rocked the urban-neighbourhood gig (it's really, really great not being a 9-to-5er!) - got up early enough, I suppose, chilled out, checked my email and played online. I had breakfast at our local diner (at that location since the 1960s), but on my way over I stopped for a chat with the Italian barber on the corner. After breakfast I had to meet someone up at the next subway stop, so I got there early and enjoyed a sunbeam, a latte and a novel while I was waiting. So much better than meetings.
It's been a good day so far - nice sunny warmish day with a cool breeze to keep the temperature under control, I read all the way along the 407 on the bus and didn't get motion sick (it's been a really, really long while since that was possible), and finished my book just before my stop in Brooklin. It's Dad's 77th birthday today, which I think warrants a visit. :D
As the bus is slowing down to let me off, I can see there's someone waiting to get on at my stop, which is strange, but not unusual. Imagine my surprise when I'm on the stairs, climbing down to exit, and the guy waiting to get on the bus is my brother, on his way to work. We had time for a quick hug but he had to go (obviously). Of all the things you expect to see at a commuter bus stop in the middle of a summer afternoon (when you haven't told anyone when you're showing up), a sibling isn't always at the top of the list. Unexpected, strange, but awesome.

After some doing some heavy thinking about purchasing an Ipod touch, I’ve come in conclusion that longer battery life, WiFi access, very nice looking everything is not worth it. Since I rarely listen to music and I have a tendency to do everything the hard/stupid way: ie having to use a map to get from location to location or having to pull out a real bubble leveler.
Maybe the Ipod would decrease the time it takes to search up a location of the tastiest restaurant on the block, it does decrease the sense of exploration and learning how to get there. It also takes away the skills which are required in direction orientation and knowing how to use a map *I can name several people who have gotten lost even with an operating GPS function on the IPod.
At least having to suffer; lost of time due to getting lost or a brain fart of remembering that actor’s name…. does give a more fulfilling sense of experiential learning and accomplishment when you break through the barrier.
P.S. One thing which can give me the chills and scarred spine tingly feeling….breaking an ant’s nest open……its almost as scary as rising poo water from a clogged toilet.

Michael Bay might not receive the highest praise from the film community due to his…Bayish action..but after watching the second transformers I felt like ripping out my own heart/brain and having it re-programmed.
Down to the nuts and bolts, Bay sure knows how to capture Bayish action…but humanist narrative interaction…hmm sure with the help of packaged sex symbol Fox and Peter Cullen’s deep voice. The film still requires the musical touch of Steve Jablonsky to fully captivate any means of emotional aspect.
**Speaking of Jablonsky, love his very epic heroic composition, if it wasn’t for him Armageddon would just be another action overdrive film.
With fleshbot minors out of the way….the film was FREAKING ROBOT PRON AWESOME! This is one of those films where I have to purchase it and watch the fight sequence one frame at a time. If you blink you’ll miss all the heavenly glory of Primal vs. THREE!......As a technophile **yes I enjoy starring into the innards of dismembered computer cores or stripped engine blocks, transformers is a breeding ground for a nest of eye candy.
Extra bonus points with Optimus, too bad we have very feel leaders like him….all heroic at an epic level, would jump into a fray if he tells me to :P
Minor Notes: - Hehe can see stunt drivers in the cars - Surviving a carpet bombing of 2 ton JDAMS at close proximity…please - First film was a commercial screening for expensive cars, this year they’ve added in army recruitment theme for the Marines and Special Forces. - You say I love you first…no you say it. BORRING! - Too many annoyance within the films by extremely spineless geeky individuals - Speaking of spineless, robot dog death was…pretty graphic. - If I hear “what the F” one more time I might just punch someone!

Several months ago I would admit that I was holding fast against purchasing any new technological innovation especially that of smartphone technology: ie Iphone.
But during the camping trip I was exposed to nearly 2 hours of non-stop fun and mental fascination with the Ipod touch…and damn…this is a very very cool gadget. I love how Apple has built in sensitive microchips into the system to allow the use of the bubble leveler and a very sensitive compass functions. What I’ve been seeing so far the system is extremely rugged coupled with an outstanding battery lifespan…makes me…want to….buy…one now…..sorry…Palm pilot your tech is too out of date for the size package you’re in.
With that in mind I know I’ll become the next gen of crackberry because I’ll end up spending all my time just reading stuff off of the internet.
Another barrier the Iphone would impose on me is the notion of “whoops my bad, I was lost or forgotten” excuse…because with this device, you should not be having ANY! *I repeat ANY! Excuse of being lost or forgetting an appointment. With the internet at your finger tips…the world is practically in your hands.
